Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Lutheran?

Lutheranism is a Protestant Christian tradition that traces itself back to the Protestant Reformation, which began in 1517 when Martin Luther posted the 95 thesis on the door of the Wittenberg Cathedral.  Our congregation is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. If you wish to know more about our denomination, please visit our website at elca.org

The sign out front says "Swedish Lutheran Church," is this church only for Swedish people?

Nope! Augustana was founded by Swedish immigrants in 1875, but while some of their descendents still attend, most of us are not Swedish.

How should I dress?

Some people wear suits and dresses, others jeans and t-shirts, come dressed in whatever manner you feel most comfortable.

Can I take Communion?

We serve communion every Sunday. Anyone who wishes to partake of the Lord's Supper is welcome to do so. We have grape juice and gluten free options available for those who need them. If you do not wish to partake, or if you do not wish to have your children partake, you are still welcome to come forward and receive a blessing.
